How we work

Senior engineers only.
No offshore. No handoffs.

Most agencies run a pyramid: a senior architect sells the project, mid-level developers build it, offshore contractors do the grunt work, and a project manager relays messages between you and people you will never meet. It is how agencies scale margin. It is also why so many AI projects demo well and die in production.

We run Autor the opposite way, on purpose

The engineer you meet is the engineer who builds

The person in your first call writes your code, answers your messages, and is on the deploy when you launch. No account managers translating, no handoff document that loses half the context.

Senior engineers only

Everyone who touches your project has shipped production systems before. A junior developer can wire up an API call; handling the edge cases, the monitoring, the prompt regressions, and the 3am incidents is experience — and it is the difference between a demo and a product.

No offshore

Your project stays with our Toronto team. Same time zone, same data jurisdiction — which matters more in AI than anywhere else, because PHIPA and PIPEDA compliance starts with where your data physically lives and who can access it.

We say no

We turned down a $200k project because the requirements would have produced something the client's users did not need. A studio that takes every project is optimizing for its revenue, not your outcome.

Why this works for AI specifically

AI products fail in a specific way: they work in the demo and degrade in production. Models drift. Vendors silently update. Real users say things no test script predicted. Surviving that is not a process problem you can manage with more people — it is a judgment problem you solve with fewer, better people who stay on the project.

We know because we run our own AI in production. Loquent, our voice AI platform, answers thousands of automated calls a month for healthcare and dental clinics, 24/7, at an 89% automation rate with 4.3/5 patient satisfaction. We built it in under 8 weeks and we have operated it ever since — model pinning, a regression corpus of 200+ real call transcripts, live dashboards, and an on-call rotation. Every client project gets the practices we learned keeping our own product alive.

What working with us looks like

Week one you are talking to the engineer who will build your system, not a salesperson. We will tell you what we would build, what we would cut, and what we would refuse to build. You get working software early and often, real numbers on a dashboard, and an honest answer when something breaks — because something always breaks, and the difference is whether your studio tells you before you notice.

The trade-off, stated plainly

This model does not scale to 40-person delivery teams, and we do not pretend it does. If you need 25 developers on a two-year enterprise rollout, we are the wrong studio and we will tell you in the first call. If you need a production AI product built by people who have done it 50 times and will still answer your messages in month six — that is exactly what we are.

Talk to the engineer who would build it

Not sure how to compare studios? We wrote the evaluation guide we would use ourselves: how to evaluate an AI development studio in 2026.
